San Cristobal is a charming island on the east of the Galapagos archipelago. Its capital, Puerto Baquerizo Moreno has a more serene atmosphere than the noisy and busy Puerto Ayora in the island of Santa Cruz. Puerto Baquerizo Moreno is also the capital of the Galapagos Islands.
In recent years, several Galapagos hotels and Galapagos tour operators have contributed to the tourist development of San Cristobal Island. The options for tourists on this island are impressive: islets, rocky beaches that are the territory of sea lions, dive sites, unique species in the world and more. A paradise for adventurers and nature lovers.
A place you cannot miss in San Cristobal is Cerro Tijeretas. The tourist site takes its name after the frigate birds whose tail ends in the shape of scissors. It was one of the first places where the English biologist Charles Darwin landed. In this place there are three viewpoints from where you can see spectacular scenery and there is also a beach where it is possible to snorkel.
In the middle of the sea, northwest of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno is Kicker Rock also known as the Sleeping Lion. The erosion of volcanic remains formed two rocks of approximately 148 m in height, named for its resemblance to a sleeping lion. Between the rocks an exceptional channel is formed for swimming, diving, snorkeling and observing species such as blue footed boobies, masked boobies, frigates, pelicans and sea lions. In the sea, you can see Galapagos sharks, hammerhead sharks, sea tortoises, stingrays and many tropical fish. This is one of the most amazing places in Galapagos and also well known worldwide for its peculiar beauty.
A stay in San Cristobal is not complete if you do not visit the Interpretation Center. The center, created thanks to the support of the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development, in coordination with the Galapagos National Park and the Charles Darwin Foundation, is of great importance for the scientific community. The Interpretation Center provides visitors with a journey through the history of the Galapagos Islands in the context of their geological origins, the human colonization and the conservation efforts that seek to protect them.
These and many other incredible places to visit are included in the Island Hopping programs offered by Casa Natura Galápagos Lodge!
