In 1900, the United States and Canada were the pioneers in establishing the “Christmas bird count”. This count allows you to determine the state of the different bird populations with the involvement of the community. Since 2016, the Galapagos Islands are part of this initiative. In the Galapagos Islands, the annual bird count is carried out by the Galapagos National Park and the Charles Darwin Foundation. The main objective is to allow the community to get involved in this project with the purpose of collecting information and evaluating the state in which the land birds of the Galapagos Islands are found. In general, the community can be part of this activity during December 2018. This research focuses on the species: Galapagos Dove, Owls and the Vermilion Flycatcher. However, if the community find information about other birds, it is also received by the Charles Darwin Foundation.
Casa Natura is a hotel in the Galapagos committed in the conservation of the birds of the Enchanted Islands. For this reason, we invite our guests and the community to become part of this project that will take place in this month of December.
